Oz? That place was lost decades ago. They are the descendants of the English prison class so it is unsurprising that they can't understand the distinction between men and women. Perhaps Lamarksim is proven by the denizens of that God-foresaken place called Australia.
Yes, but right now it is comforting to see a place which is slightly more unserious than Britain.
I ma trying to get the BLowers' cartoons for the week as they are brilliant. Labour CIvil War Enactment Society (back soon); Wes Streeting -- A Rebel without a clue -- all he needs is 81 MPs to cause trouble; and Sunak,Truss and Johnson enjoying Starmer saying 'An end to Tory chaos' shouting rewind. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/04/30/telegraph-cartoons-may-2026/ or https://archive.ph/CL7P8
"For example, they {Labour} are still intent on abolishing trial by jury and the right to automatic appeal in a summary judgement."
In other words, erase the fundamental rights that have been the bedrock of British law since Magna Carta was forced on a tyrant king in 1215. Any party that stands for that needs to be extirpated from British life and its adherents sent scurrying onto the sea like the rats they are.
I completely agree. A General Election and a massive cleaning of the stables.
Because it is not in the manifesto (ie they were not elected to do this), I suspect the Lords will scupper it, but I am not holding my breath.
Currently the alterations in listing and a few other tweaks like not restricting court sitting days are assisting in making the courts more efficient.
Many of the problems are not jury related. For example, if someone doesn't speak English is charged with a crime, there needs to be a Court translator but there also needs to be an independent translator for the defence because of confidentiality. If no one has bothered, the trial can't happen.
Thank you for the detailed update Michelle! I’ve been following events in the UK this week. One because I’ve always been interested in the parliamentary system and how it works. And two, because I’m sick of our midterm primary nonsense where I live. I listened and thoroughly enjoyed Kemi’s response to the King’s speech (I may have the terminology wrong). She is brilliant! I’ve also enjoyed watching the local commercials I’ve seen while streaming. It’s fun seeing what is different and what’s the same. Thanks again!
The events this week in parliament have been bonkers. They are behaving like spoilt children, but from what I understand some of it down to Starmer's remote style. Labour was elected in part because people were tired of Conservative chaos.
Kemi's response to the King's Speech has been great. What the Conservatives and the rest of the Opposition will now do is try to figure out how they work to amend the proposed legislation. As you have probably guessed I have a lot of time for Kemi.
Hello Northumberland! Just got back from my daily constitutional. Good to see You this fine Friday morning.
I wonder if Burnham will end up Prime Minister.
I'm sorry to see the Conservative support a Green candidate. Kemi was right, as usual. And camp. Don't know about Farage. I do know about Polanski. And the Greens.
Good for the King. "Long live the King." And the Princess of Wales. That was interesting about the Reggio Emilia visit.
That's truly horrendous about he imam rapist. Disgusting.
That's some police operation. I hope it goes well.
That was good news from the Leeds ET. Good for Didlaw. I, too, stand with Sall Grover. (eye roll, too, at the Guardian story)
The rapes on Oct 7 were what they were. I had a hard time reading the story.
I'm sorry to hear about the cold weather. But Paddy looks great, as always. And, as always, thanks for everything, Michelle.
I honestly don't understand some of the feminists like Jane Clare Jones. It is as if they don't understand about the totalitarian nature of Hamas or how they treated women. It bothers me that they are that uncurious.
On a positive note Cambridge Union had a debate last night about women's rights. Maeve Halligan spoke for the losing side (sex realism) but she gave a brilliant speech. https://x.com/MaeveHalligan/status/2055228205804421218
It is so sad that I am just pleased the issue was debated and we are now past the era of no debate.

If you've ever met a Sheila, you might not see a distinction, either.

On a positive immigration note, it looks like the EU is going to start taking steps to curb the European Court of Human Rights so that foreign criminals can be deported. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/05/14/britain-europe-bid-weaken-human-rights-foreign-criminals/ or https://archive.ph/IjMJW

Hello Central Ohio!
I am glad you enjoyed the round up.
King Charles has done well this week.
I honestly don't understand some of the feminists like Jane Clare Jones. It is as if they don't understand about the totalitarian nature of Hamas or how they treated women. It bothers me that they are that uncurious.

Outstanding speech. TY Michelle.
