Hello America (in particular Central Ohio) This is Northumberland calling.
First and foremost, a welcome to my new subscribers. I figure the influx is from Mill Hill’s lovely shout out. I hope you will enjoy this. Mostly it is just the Friday round up, but I keep wondering if I should post some of my old essays on writing etc. Anyway, you are very welcome and I am honoured to have you here. And in case you have not read Milli – she is currently doing a Friday essay on how the word ‘women’ is being erased in today’s society and what people can do about preventing that.
I am very much a Mills trident type person and also believe in the right of dissent aka the right to hold your own opinion. It is with the testing of opinions and finding common ground that democracy works best in my humble opinion. You are free to disagree.
As luck would have it, the Saturday papers are of interest.
First up Kemi Badenoch explaining her point of view and what she is working towards. And why she has been working on sorting out the toilet issue (basically so it doesn’t keep being a bone of contention). There are reasons why she is such an asset to the UK. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2023/10/28/kemi-badenoch-interview-being-black-in-britain/ or https://archive.ph/CisJg
Next Baroness Falkner explains her side in the bullying row which she endured, mainly as a result of championing the GC view that sex means biological sex https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/baroness-falkner-how-i-survived-the-witch-hunt-at-my-equality-watchdog-mhw0v5gf3 or https://archive.ph/YRhy5
If you want to see what people are up against re schools, the LGB Alliance did a session. Some of these teachers should be nowhere near students. One teacher decided as they were ‘non-binary’ they did not have wear menstrual protection when they had their period. In fact they wore light coloured clothing to provoke conversations. My personal thought was – did they enjoy ruining clothes? Or ruining other people’s furniture? Blood is actually hard to remove. Been there, had it happen. Some women have light periods, others have heavy ones. If you have a tendency towards flooding, there are reasons why wearing white jeans on your period is not a good idea. Gender is a social construct. Biological sex is a physical reality which is established at conception and observed at birth. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/10/27/activist-teachers-survey-pupils-gender-confusion-claim/ or https://archive.is/D0KqV
There is a further explanation about the Farage scandal. It matters because of the common law principle which has been around since the 18th century if you hang out a sign saying inn and someone has the money to pay, they should be served. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/alison-rose-former-natwest-boss-fights-to-keep-10m-bonuses-tdgxvmj2l or https://archive.ph/AzleM
And finally, this article by Simon Sebag- Montefiore explaining why the Decolonization narrative needs to be challenged, particularly with regards to the Middle East. Actually once you begin tugging at a thread, the whole rotten edifice starts unravelling. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/10/decolonization-narrative-dangerous-and-false/675799/ or https://archive.ph/ubeUQ
Now Paddy, my English Springer spaniel wants walking. And he is very hard to ignore… There are reasons why his full name is Paddington.
Great write-up and links.
Hello Northumberland! This is Central Ohio calling, thanking You as graciously as one can on the internet.
What a special treat to wake up to! (Not woke. ;-)
The more I hear from and about Kemi, the brighter she seems. Brighter in all respects.
I was disturbed to "hear" about what Baroness Faulkner had to go through. I'm not just "talking" about the £30,000, but I can't help but wonder what would-a happened to a person had hadn't had her resources. The usual would-a happened, right? But, all-in-all, I'm very happy for her. It's just sad that something like this could happen in an organization presumably concerned with fairness and equality. This is what happens when the Trans-ideology dominates. They want nothing to do with fairness and equality. Domination is their theme song.
I could only skim the article about the LGBTQ activity in Your schools over there. I shudder to think about what's happening over here. I've mentioned before that it's biologically impossible for a person to change their (biological) gender. Gender isn't assigned, at birth or at any other time. That's gaslighting. Gender is determined. It's determined, determinably, at conception. This isn't rocket science. So a trans person, identifying their gender as the opposite sex is, themselves, misgendering themselves. Maybe it is rocket science. Donno.
And it just figures Dame Alison Rose wants to stick it to the taxpayer. Maybe that will reinforce her errant beliefs about herself that she didn't do anything wrong. Or she just a greedy bisstard, like all the nobs.
Yet another great read in The Atlantic article on Israel. Just one point, outta many:
"It seems odd that one has to say: Killing civilians, old people, even babies, is always wrong. But today say it one must. . . . . . The lack of decency and respect for human life is astonishing: ... October 7 deniers, like Holocaust deniers, exist in an especially dark place."
In sum, IMO, Western society is psychotic.
"psychosis
noun
psy·cho·sis sī-ˈkō-səs
pluralpsychoses sī-ˈkō-ˌsēz
Synonyms of psychosis
: a serious mental illness (such as schizophrenia) characterized by defective or lost contact with reality often with hallucinations or delusions"
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/psychosis
This has been scientifically and artfully explained in "The Master and His Emissary" by Dr. Iain McGilchrist, and in his longer, follow-on book. It's a very sad story, in which we all contribute, to greater or lesser extents. A brief introduction (on Kindle only) is $.99 and takes about an hour: https://www.amazon.com/Divided-Brain-Search-Meaning-ebook/dp/B008JE7I2M/ref=sr_1_5 I should read that again.
All that to say...
This was yet another outstanding round-up of great articles, Michelle. *Outstanding!* Thought provoking.. Emotion-rending at times. Thank You, as always.
