Go Kemi!

Michelle Styles's avatar

Kemi rose in my estimation this week. She is showing how one challenges progressive narratives in a reasoned manner.

Hello Northumberland! Good to see You again this fine Friday.

That was a great article about Kemi. As was the article by Allister Heath.

I feel for Dame Maureen Lipman.

That was an interesting article about Marco Rubio.

Phillipson is atrocious, as always. More power to the girl suing the Scottish school.

Better late than never for the BMA. Better never for the puberty blockers. Good for Singapore.

Glad to see the signs of spring in Your neighborhood. And Paddy and Hercules look great, as always. Wishing You good luck on the writing and, as always, TY Michelle.

Great to see you as well, JT

It seems like (fingers crossed) the Greens have not done as well as Polanski predicted.

What is going to be interesting is Manchester -- because will Burnham (the current mayor) risk standing for a supposedly safe seat for Labour ? To stand he'd have to give up being mayor apparently.

It looks like it is going to be Starmer's 'organised withdrawal' -- an orderly transition.

We have all the drama of the NOrth East councils, Scotland and Wales to come. Labour are supposed to have collapsed in Wales which is unheard of. Unfortunately I suspect that the SNP are going prevail in Scotland -- a triumph of hope over expectation.

Kemi just keeps getting better and better. Her performance this week has been pitch perfect but then I am a long time fan of Kemi's.

TY for writing Michelle.

I'm a long time fan of Kemi as well.

I know.

Unfortunately the Greens have won the mayor of Hackney position. She is the person who blocked the letter praising the police for their actions in Golders Green. It is a blow to Labour but...

jt's avatar

Too bad.

I hate anti-Semitism as much as you do but siccing the cops on people for words is a terrible idea. Punish acts, not speech. Let social opprobrium deal with the latter. Otherwise, you're on a very slippery slope.

But thanks for the reports on Labour's comeuppance. Made my heart sing.

It looks like Labour have lost Wales which is mirth making. They have been in charge there for 27 years and have now conceded. It doesn't mean that Wales will be any better run. Plaid Cymru are in the same mould as the SNP.

Unfortunately it looks like the SNP will return...possibly in coalition with the Greens.

The antisemitism is out of control. You should not have to have the police guarding polling stations in Jewish areas. And I believe there was another attempted stabbing yesterday on a bus but the bus driver reacted well and prevent it from getting out of control. It is the marching past synagogues etc. They can have static protests instead. This is up to Westminster council. The government should also proscribe the IRGC and start a register of imams as well preventing overseas funding of mosques. Incitements to violence have never been free speech.

And some people do vote pro-Gaza Blackburn has been split between pro-Gaza and Reform. I have no idea what local councillors can do to influence foreign policy...but there you have it. It used to be Labour.

Wouldn't it just make more sense to deport these savages back to the hell hole from which they slithered?

Michelle Styles's avatar

Unfortunately there are now plenty of 'home grown' ones as well. As Baroness Falkner pointed out that there is this monoculture in some areas with people clinging on to false ideas and passing them onwards to new generations. Polanski called her measured remarks 'inflammatory'.

I agree with you to some extent about words not being punished but when those words go beyond the pale and incite, something must be done. Maybe it’s just more words back. Certainly here in the US more can be done by the leadership.

And in the UK, where is the monarchy? Aren’t they supposed to be guiding lights? They act more like shrinking violets. Charles never has a problem lecturing about climate crap, why nothing on Jew hatred?

Michelle Styles's avatar

Charles has done. He became the patron of the Jewish charity which provides the security after the arson attack. He goes out of his way to support the Jewish community.

The leadership really needs to come from the London mayor (yeah, right squadron of pigs spotted). Badenoch has been really good this week. Labour needs to start saying these things to (instead of just offering thoughts and prayers).

I feel for the Jewish residents of Hackney -- there are 80 synagogues...and the new mayor didn't want to thank the police for catching the Golders Green assailant.

Unwoke in Idaho's avatar

Maybe he has done, but clearly not enough and not often. And the rest of the family?

Michelle Styles's avatar

The Prince and Princess of Wales have done some things. I know Catherine has visited with Holocaust survivors etc. They generally can't make speeches. It is about being seen.

Also Charles tends to do more in this area than most. He had the chief rabbi stay at Buck Housed before the coronation so he could attend.

A Lion Heart, Chuck III is not. ....

Michelle Styles's avatar

He did fine on his state visit. But I don't think he will be remembered for much.

Bruce Miller's avatar

Fine is a low bar. He is the King of the English people. Not of the Islamist rapist gate crashers. It is long past time for him to act like it. Richard thrashed Saladin. Henry led the Agincourt bowmen. His mother's namesake kept England from being a vassal to the Spaniards. His grandfather stood tall and stayed put during the Blitz. Where is Chuckie's courage? Where is his love for his people? He is more like wicked usurping, John or Eddie Two than a leader of his people and Church.

Because people sometimes wonder where all the moderate Muslims who support the Jews and speak out against antisemitism, particularly in their own communities. This is a letter in the Times by 11 prominent Muslims which does just that. The letter is at the bottom of the article. https://www.thetimes.com/article/17256b39-9afd-44cd-a349-722b5a80b676?shareToken=7ae3851d7bd4b597f35a3bf1852d3330
