Thank you for reporting on this Michelle! I am an admirer of both JKR and Kathleen Stock. Courage on display!

I thought it might not get reported that much in the US. It was v interesting to see people's reactions to the protests. The Spiral of Silence does appear to be ending and we have entered a period of debate.

Kathleen Stock by all accounts was v measured and composed but then she has taught at a university for 20 years. She knows what students are like. The protests did not phase her.

She did mention in Gender Wars that she had not expected to be ambushed the way she was at Cambridge. And to my mind, it was naughty of whoever was in charge at Cambridge not to stop 'Kass' when they went on a rant and spoke off-topic. However, as the topic was offence and Kathleen was speaking for the right to give offence, I suppose she accepted it. Her book is once again doing very well from what I understand.

ANd JKR is just brilliant. I suspect people will have posters and t-shirts made with that saying.

What? Is this Northumberland calling on a Wednesday?!? Or someone who looks and acts like Michelle, but is actually JKR in disguise?

Donno. But appreciate it. Another great roundup, Ma'am. And Susie Green? What a piece-a "stuff."

TY, as always.

I thought it important because of Kathleen Stock speaking and the threat to freedom of speech. It amazes me that people do not understand freedom of speech is also about the freedom to listen. If in a free country you have legally booked a venue, you can invite whoever you want to hear speak, but you should be able to hear them speak.

Oh and I have heard back from my editor -- she loves bits but wants to make it even better so revisions.

The revisions are not bad and she loves the story. It is about making it as strong as possible.

As I know you are interested in literacy, particularly literacy in the US, I thought you'd enjoy this article from the NYT about what is happening in Mississippi. It is such good news story: https://archive.is/toeWf

GREAT catch, Michelle! Always good to "hear" some good news on the education front.

OK, but what does "Edward R Murrow met his wife through their involvement in organizing students to make a difference in the early 1930s" have to do with any of this?

I am writing a novel about them. Sorry.
