“Safetyism is their response to the challenge of liberty, yet liberty is the thing that protects us all" Kemi Badenoch speaks on the new authoritarians: Excellent as always. https://unherd.com/thepost/kemi-badenoch-beware-the-new-authoritarians/
The Scottish Parliament deemed a woman wearing suffragette colours (Green, White, Violet – Give Women Votes) was making a political statement. They colours have been adopted by the gender critical movement and forced her to leave. This is despite several people wearing rainbow lanyards at the same meeting. The gift shop does sell suffragette banners. They made a formal apology to the woman. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/suffrage-scarf-women-ejected-from-trans-debate-at-holyrood-pmf72vq9q
And because I was rather busy with the Society of Authors – we lost (but 20% supported us, an almost unheard of percentage when you have proxy voting controlled by the chair and it was an underground word of mouth movement) . The person chairing that portion of the meeting cut me off after a minute, despite being notified in advance that I wanted to speak as a second speaker. He gave the opposing side much more time than 3 minutes. The Telegraph has a write up. I get a mention. We are now deemed to be ‘free speech rebels’. I’ll take that. The ceo of the Society said that free expression really had no place in the Society after one woman author dramatically resigned during the Any Other Business section. My letter will go in soon. I have cancelled my direct debit. An alternative will be found. This is the archived version (i.e. not behind a paywall) : https://archive.ph/nO9P0
But, hey, I learned a new word: presentism. Thanks.
And good luck.
Awwww... I'm SO sorry, Ma'am. It's hard for me not to say that evil incarnate has won instead-a good people. I guess that's a bit extreme, but this so-called Society of Authors is *really* extreme.
I'm glad You got a small voice in the proceedings. Should-a figured You wouldn't be heard out. That's the very problem.
I agree with everything M. Alison "said." But one thing i didn't understand: Why You cancel debit card. Was it from SoA? Next question raised in article is whether there's any chance the industry would support a second group made up of Youse who are actually sane?
In any event, I hope You can lick Your uncalled-for wounds, and live to fight (or at least write) another day. :-) And, as Alison said, we're proud of You, Michelle.
