And for Channa

The Palace has just given update on the Princess of Wales -- there is no update. She is recovering well. I suspect the first photos will be on Easter Sunday. The Prince of Wales visited a synagogue earlier this week and met several Holocaust survivors.

Thank you, Michelle! I’ve been following as much as they’ve told us, and I’m fine with that being very little. I’m glad to hear Princess Catherine’s recovering well, as she is certainly a jewel in the royal family. I could only read a bit about Prince William’s synagogue visit before the paywall kicked in, but I’ll see what I can find.

Great column this morning! The article about the manufacture of silk velvet sounds so interesting, and I’m putting it aside for later when I can savor every detail.

Just as I was reading the last paragraph, my rambunctious eight-month-old Doberman bounced up onto the bed, slammed his 60-lb. arse into my face, managing to knock my phone out of my hand, and my (mostly full) water bottle and (thankfully empty) coffee cup onto the floor. I think he wanted to pay tribute to Hardy, who looks like a very sweet and good boy. I am so sorry you lost him. They fill our lives with joy and chaos, and leave such a dog-shaped hole in our hearts when they go.

And because the Prince of Wales was in Wales for St David's Day, it would seem Catherine is well enough to be left. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2024/03/01/prince-william-wrexham-rob-mcelhenney/ or https://archive.is/XEVZm

Here is a little more about the visit: https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/other/prince-william-visits-london-synagogue-to-hear-of-rising-antisemitism/ar-BB1j6NJB

I don't know if you have heard of the Hairy Bikers (they are a cooking duo from the North) Apparently Prince Philip used to quite like them. Anyway, Dave Myers, the one from Cumbria died from cancer yesterday. https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2024/feb/29/dave-myers-obituary

I thought the silk velvet thing so interesting. It is easy to forget the little niches.

And lol on your Doberman. When they go, they do take a piece of your heart but they also leave their whole heart behind in its place. I would love to think that I am becoming more generous and 'in the moment' because of the dogs I have had. And any future dog will be because of , and not to replace the irreplaceable. But first Paddy must be better trained.

I hadn’t heard of the Hairy Bikers! But hubby and I used to enjoy the Two Fat Ladies quite a bit. Very heartening to read about William’s visit to the Jewish community. I was surprised to hear that he had made a statement on the Israel-Hamas war, but I gave him a pass on it, since I am such an unabashed fan of Wills & Kate.

If you liked the Two Fat Ladies, you will really enjoy the Hairy Bikers. Two blokes who like to cook and travel. Their cookbooks actually work.

I was gobsmacked about his statement as it was such a gift to the Pro-Hamas. Everyone wants a 'sustainable' ceasefire but to achieve that 1. the hostages must be returned and 2. Hamas must be removed from power. 7 October type events must never happen again and their leadership is committed to them happening again and again. An immediate ceasefire only benefits Hamas who are currently losing but who have not lost. I do not underestimate the ability of the West to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I hope and pray that someone on the Palestinian side gains power who is willing to put the welfare of the Palestinian people first and find a way to peacefully co-exist with their neighbours. Because however faint that hope is, it is the only way towards peace because Israel is not going anywhere and does most emphatically have a right to exist.

And they have released the info: Lady Gabriella Winsor's husband died of a gunshot wound to his head. A gun was found at his side in one of the outbuildings at his parents.

The most important news is that of Hardy. All dogs should be so lucky as to have lived their life in your household Michelle. Those decisions are the most difficult to make. The love of a good dog. I am so sorry for your loss.

Thank you. The love of a good dog is a truly wonderful thing and that sort of decision is so v hard to make, even when you know it is the right one.

Thank you.

And I am pleased you could see why the Bevilacqua article was so fascinating on so many levels.

Hello Northumberland.

I, too, am sorry to "hear" about Hardy. He was gorgeous.

Another nice roundup of articles, Michelle. The battle against wokeness sometimes seems to be one step forward and two steps backwards. The article on Bevilacqua velvet was absolutely fascinating.

TY, as always. Take good care of Yourself.

Thank you. I was of two minds whether to mention it but decided on balance that it is best to share such things because people are genuinely kind and a large percentage does know what it is like to have to make that decision.

The battle against wokeness can grind one down. There have been some successes. And Simon Fanshawe is indeed now the new rector of Edinburgh University. That protest went nowhere. They are lucky to have him.

And I am glad you found that velvet article fascinating -- I thought it was one of the more interesting things I read this week.

Hopefully you are doing okay and life is treating you well.

TY for writing, Michelle. Not all authors reply in their comments section. Most don't.

I'm glad to hear about Simon Fanshawe.

And I'm doing fairly well. Life is treating me very generously. This coming Monday it's supposed to reach 72° (22 ° C). Can You believe it?! On March 4!?!

Can You do any writing while Your Partial is out with Your editor? Or is everything put on hold until You get feedback from her?

If people take the time to comment, they deserve an answer imho.

Climate change is a thing.

I have been doing some writing (working on a contemporary because I wanted a change of pace). My editor was supposed to get back to me by 27th but she didn't. Overtaken by Events most likely so I am now reaching a decision point because I do have a deadline for this one. I really want her thoughts before I continue as I know that she has a v clear vision on how things should progress or what works for her (and what doesn't). I will probably continue to work on the contemporary for the next week and then see. I have nudged as of course the Crows of Doubt do flock. There is always this struggle with the Crows.

I wish You well, Michelle. (Of course, You knew that. :-)

And I shouldn't listen to them. My editor just emailed to say that my partial is in fantastic shape and she loves my heroine etc. Huge relief here.

This is weird, Michelle. It won't let me reply to Your latest news on Your editor's loving what You wrote. I tried everything I knew. Ah well...

Just to say congrats:

Sunak has given a speech on the need to counter extremism including that the police should police demonstrations, rather than simply manage them. It shall be interesting to see what they do. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/rishi-sunaks-speech-in-full-rhklxp9tc or https://archive.is/J4i2R
