The last time I was in Target, there was an abundance of SPARE. Yesterday the same amount of books all had a 30% off sticker and were falling from the shelves. It’s being spun by certain media here that Markle’s decision to not attend the coronation is “empowering.” Somehow I think there’s more to the story. These two made multiple millions by ripping on the RF. From now on they should both just stay away, unless they’re looking for more material.

I can’t wait for the coronation! Because it’ll be so early here my friends and I are going to make our scones and snacks the day before and watch together over FaceTime.

My father, who is almost 80, remembers watching the Queen’s coronation on television in 1953. It is really incredible that there is such a vast amount of time between British coronations.

Thank you, Michelle, for another great round up! Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

It could be that Markle did not want to be boo'd. People really do not care for her over here. A few wonder if means she has juiced everything from the relationship and they are no longer travelling together like salt and pepper. Or if her tiara wasn't going to be big enough... But I think most people are just pleased she is staying away.

Did your father watch the coronation on CBS? If so, Ed and Janet Murrow did the commentary. I have my paternal grandmother's scrapbook from 1953 -- my grandfather was serving in Germany and she was doing things like running a Jewish refugee camp (trying to get them to Israel) ANyway -- huge photo of the Queen with the caption that they did not attend. LOL.

I doubt that there will be as much time between this and the next one, given the King's age.

But it is going to be one of the great set pieces of 2023. A spectacle to behold.

I’ll ask my dad. He always says that he thought she was having trouble wearing the heavy crown! I do believe it weighs a few pounds.

Michelle Styles's avatar

Do! I am v interested.

The crown is supposed to be v heavy. I saw a programme with her talking about the Crown Jewels and she remarked how heavy it was. It is why in her later years, the crown was carried on a pillow rather than her having to wear it.

What is interesting is that Camilla and Catherine have obviously had access to the vaults and some pieces which have been in storage for awhile are being seen again.

I can’t wait to see the jewelry. Especially the old pieces. The tiaras! Kate will look stunning as always. How is the public feeling about Camilla?

As far as I can tell the public are warming to Camilla. She isn't too flashy. ANd her reading group etc seem to be what the public wants. She seems grounded.

This article from earlier this week might interest as it is about how the Wales have quietly updated the Royal family. Some jewellery might be involved.... https://archive.is/2AUXt

The Art Deco pieces are always my favorite. The Princess of Wales has amazing style. I like that she re-wears her gowns, too.

Lol! "Truly it has." Ne'er were Truer words spoken! Thank You for the laugh, Ma'am.

Truly the world has gone insane when Sir Keir Starmer can say that some women have penises. Presumably he graduated high school (or Your equivalent over there across the pond). Did he never have a biology course?!?

Truly the world has gotten brighter with Prime Minister Sunak pushing back.

Truly it has gotten brighter with M Piggott's piece. Truer words again:

"Last weekend in Cork we visited the multi-ethnic Marina Market and ate Mexican fajitas while drinking American beer and watching English football on a Japanese TV."

Ireland not so different from U.S. it turns out. Funny that. (As an aside, I have a bit o' the Blarney Stone in my heritage. I remember when the mayor of Dublin was a Briscoe.)

Truly has the world gotten more confusing since reading about the British library. So they decided to become "anti-racist" after the BLM riots which, incidently, probably killed more people than the police killed unarmed blacks. Ah...

Weeeel, that implies they were racists before. I find that a funny concept. But it goes along with Kendi's stupidity that You're either an anti-racist, or You're a racist according to his definition of racism: https://twitter.com/JohnHMcWhorter/status/1399670923221946372

Here is John McWhorter's take on it: "In which academic discipline is this circular, naive, deer-caught-in-the-headlights response to a basic and urgent question considered insightful or excellent?"

I assume "Spare" is the Bible on nincompoops? My $.02 on another Royal issue (har!) is that that's a nice shade-a blue. But hafta admit I'm so ign'rant I don't know what the four nations of the UK even *are.* What can I say?

Other than, per usual, You have outdone Yourself, Michelle. You sent a prelim version of Your newest book to Your editor, right? Was it called a "partial." Ancient memory not as good as it was. (Or maybe my memory of how good it used-ta be if faulty. ;-)

Hope writing biography of JM is going along smoothly. And that Your life, in general, is going on smoothly. (Smoothly is my word of the moment. ;-) TY again for Your excellence, Michelle.

So pleased you enjoyed it, JT.

And learning the nations of the United Kingdom was something I had to do for the citizenship test I took back in 2018. England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Because I am wiaitng for my agent to me her thoughts on the latest Viking, I am busy working on the JM fictionalized biography. Yesterday I wrote a bit on when Hitler went into Austria. I truly had not realized how badly behaved the Austrians were to the Jews in the days which followed. Just stomach churning stuff. But 13 March 1938 was the first time anyone had ever done a round up of news by cutting to various different sites. It was the weekend and so they got Labour politician Ellen Wilkinson in, arriving 15 min before air time to give the British political viewpoint -- pointout how topsy turvy it had become with Labourites and Socialists protesting against Germany (in the 1920s they were pro-Germany) and the British Right being v Dovish.

McWhorter is excellent. I have so much time for him.

And SPare is the 'bible' or truth Harry is putting on the pews before the Coronation according to Brookes'

I had no ideer about the Austrians either. It must be about as interesting researching the book as writing it.

It was John McWhorter and Bari Weiss who originally got me looking at CRT. That opened my eyes and then I began to look around at all kinds-a things I'd never taken much interest in before. All the Woke crap and Thomas Sowell, and suchlike. Started a book of essays by M Sowell, but got sidetracked. Ah well...

And I've "said" it before. Always admired writers of all sorts. Especially fiction. I didn't know the JM was gonna be fictionalized autobiography. Best o' luck on it, Michelle.

It is why I write -- I love doing the research. The little facts and how things fit together.

Sowell should get more praise than he does but his viewpoint does not chime with certain outspoken sections of the Politically Black intelligentsia. He called it right in 2012 but few wanted to listen.

Writing fiction is in some ways easier than non fiction. JM does deserve a proper biography, and maybe if my fictionalized account is published then someone will. There are so many women who did contribute but who get erased because they don't fit the narrative.

TY for reply, Ma'am.

What did Sowell call right in 2012? And, yeah. He should get a LOTTA credit. I've found a lotta stuff he "talked" about in '99 to be prescient. Or maybe it's been going on a lot longer than I had ever imagined.

"One small step for Women. One giant leap for Womankind." You're the champ, Michelle.

CRT has been going on since the mid 1980s but it was niche. It took a giant leap forward around 2012 as Diversity Equity and Inclusion started being put into place in an effort to avoid lawsuits.

Sowell worte several articles around then, going on about Peggy McIntosh and her knapsack. She was the precursor to DiAngelo and her failed Phd thesis underpins a lot of CRT (it was subsequently published as an article). She grew up in a wealthy suburb in Connecticut and has a lot of prejudices from that. Anyway, Sowell saw straight through her. Sowell is genuinely an original thinker and a great American intellect.

JT , also look into Robert Woodson, too. If you listen to Glenn Lowry podcast, search for the ones where Woodson is a guest.

Ah yes. I knew the McIntosh name rang a bell but couldn't remember. Memory...

I read the Knapsack article just now. Funny how she used her unearned privilege to foist her ideas on the rest-a us.
