Congratulations on the new novel, new contract, and the raise! You deserve it!

Very lovely tree. One of my cats climbed my tree just enough to reach out and ring a bell! It was very cute, but she is a very bad girl. I had to get a new (fake) tree this year and it has two normal settings and many varieties of disco settings. The bell ringer managed to step on the switch and put on a disco setting, her sister seemed to be in an appalled trace, at which point she tried to eat the tree to make it stop! Hopefully Paddy will be a good boy and forget the tree exists!

The discoing tree made me laugh. I did not know such a thing existed!

We used to have a hummingbird ornament which the cats kept climbing the tree to get. Eventually, we put it up high enough.

I love the meme about the collie and the collapsed tree -- 'Long story it was the cat'

Thus far he is fine with it. Luckily it is normally behind closed doors in the sun room -- it is too cold to enjoy at this time of year but keeps a real tree quite well.

And thank you the feeling never gets old as I was not born published.

Congratulations on your latest book and new contract! That’s wonderful news.

Badenoch is marvelous. I wish we had her here.

Badenoch is one politician who Britain wants to keep, no export licence granted.

I saw a great meme -- Be More Badenoch.

She is an independent thinker who does her own research and it was v clear from her performance that she was on the top of her brief, unlike Osbourne who appeared confused and confounded when Badenoch did not immediately apologize. Actually Osbourne doubled down until the receipts were shown about her own use of the word 'epidemic'.

She is just great. Takes no prisoners. Well prepared. On top of her brief.

A B , I found myself thinking same about Badenoch and then I wondered if we do not already have women like her. Our main stream media in particular parodies and mocks and twist so many words of the strong women in our country who are trying to make a difference (and I don’t mean Hillary). I think the UK is far ahead of us as far as honoring and respecting the women who represent them.

I think the Conservative party does, but then they had Margaret Thatcher. Labour talk a good game but keep going for the white privately educated male...

And I agree that there are many strong American women who get overlooked or mocked. Not thinking about Clinton because she has not been overlooked. She has held significant offices of state.

Good point. Anyone here saying what Badenoch said would be pilloried.

And they were pilloried in the UK up until Forestator won her case.

Badenoch is just v on top of her brief and refuses to apologize etc. I suspect there are many on the Left who mock her because they are frightened of her. Currently she is about the only politician who Labour fear.

Hello Northumberland! This is Central Ohio calling, a little late.

I saw that about Kemi. It was great, as was the article by Julie Bindel You posted. She said, "Thankfully, those gaslighting days are coming to an end." One can only hope. And TY kindly. I added "DETRANS: When transition is not the solution" to my long list of books to read.

You all are lucky to have the Office for Students and M. Arif Ahmed to uphold the laws on Free Speech. We have nothing like that over here, and You can see the results for Yourself. Like Ben Sasse "said," what we have over here was shown plainly that "we saw a set of true believers in a new kind of religion". And herein lies the problem: "Today, free will, individual agency, forgiveness, personal improvement, and healthy cultural cross-pollination are all obliterated by omnipotent determinisms. ... Success is always a privilege given, never the result of hard work; virtues such as self-reliance are unattainable for minorities." He says it all: "More curiosity, less orthodoxy." TY so much for that article, Michelle.

But I see that moral bankruptcy isn't just in fashion on this side-a the pond. Sad. Not just You guys, but a France middle school, too?

But the main news! A new contract with bigger advance! "Double Hooray!" is right!! That's just grand. Paddy's grand, too, of course, as is Your Christmas tree.

TYTY, as always Michelle. Always good to "hear" from Ya.

Always good to hear from you JT.

I thought the Ben Sasse article was v good.

The situation in France is chilling. I do not blame the teachers for going on strike over it.

Arif Ahmed is the right man for the job. He has been trying to promote free speech at Cambridge. And thankfully the new law will have teeth. Although as can be seen from Aviva, some people prefer to ignore the law in favour of Social Justice aims.

I don't know if you have discovered Vera on PBS -- tv police series set in Northumberland. Any way they filmed part of the Christmas special near where I live. Ann Cleeves was the author who originally penned the books. She also wrote the Shetland series. They are readable if you haven't discovered them.

Ah, we ended up binge watching all 11 series. They are watchable, even if the production company knits together various places in Northumberland.

The books are also readable. You should be able to find them in the library. Police procedurals type rather than cosy mystery.
