And news just in Shemima Begum has lost her appeal and thus her UK citizenship was legally revoked. The schoolgirl who travelled to join the Islamic State is deemed to be a national security risk. It is likely that she will appeal the decision up to the UK Supreme Court. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/shamima-begum-citizenship-appeal-7jmqmk0vd
You are correct in that our ‘leaders’ rule from places of fear many times, catering to the extremist that will do them harm. I do feel that most of them have some sort of skeleton in their closet as well and many are blackmailed to vote a certain way. Doesn’t say much for present day government-but there seems to be very few that are uncompromised
I guess I never realized that most farmers are men. In times long ago that would make sense merely by the difference in strength in men and women but with today’s machinery not so much. However the stories of the Land Girls was pretty awesome. Some of the best growers of small gardens that I have know have been women. I do believe that farming and rewilding should find a way to coexist.
Best part of your stack today was your descriptions of Paddy in his class. What a great dog.
Having just read Moscow X by David McCloskey -- fear takes many forms and I am glad not to live in Russia.
I do think many people have been compromised. I think over here, people have looked the other way for far too long about the threat from the Islamist Extremists. And now we have this worrying situation.
So pleased you enjoyed the description of Paddy in his class. Spaniel humour is different from collie humour. And cat humour is something else entirely. But it is there.
Hello Northumberland! Hopefully I'm "better late than never." Good to see Ya on another Friday!
But sorry to see the situation in Your Parliment, and all the Islamist extremism there. We have some here too, but it doesn't seem to be as bad as it is there. Nice catch on the article by Suella Braverman. It seemed very necessary to be said. The article on Mr. Shawcross was just good, too.
The article on Minette Batters was fascinating! Doing the farming while heading the NFU. What a lady!
I really enjoyed the article on the difference between male and female brains. And learned they now have "explainable AI" where the AI can describe *how* it came up with the answer it did. Again.. Fascinating!
I donno what to even say about males breastfeeding. And John Lewis's magazine.
The two additional posts had interesting articles as well. And always glad to hear about Paddy.
One of the fascinating things I find about the reaction to the Braverman op ed on X is people calling her a racist as they seem to equate Islamist Extremist with the entire Muslim population. Braverman was quite clear who she was talking about imho. Islamist Extremism like any other sort of extremism is confined to a small portion. It is but one strand. Militant Extremism of any religion rarely bodes well for anyone. And Braverman was saying some things which certain sections of population would rather not think about.
Kemi you will be glad to hear held her own this week -- and published memos which showed that she had just cause to sack the former Chair of the PO, and that she did not order the PO to slow down its compensation of the sub postmasters as he alleged. The permanent secretary also released her notes which showed Kemi's version of events was accurate...
And because I forgot to mention -- the Free Speech Union's Writer Advisory Council has written to Royal Society of Literature about its behaviour. The RSL has now referred itself to the Charity Commission (a highly unusual move) .The RSL is continuing to protest its innocence (for example https://amp.theguardian.com/books/2024/feb/19/royal-society-of-literature-refers-itself-to-charity-commission-after-author-petition )
https://freespeechunion.org/fsu-writers-advisory-council-writes-to-royal-society-of-literature-over-its-failure-to-publicly-support-sir-salman-rushdie/ details the FSU concerns.

TY, as always, Michelle. Always a pleasure.
So pleased you enjoyed it.

I agree with what You say about Militant Extremism.
And about Kemi, of course. Thanks for writing.
