And nearly forgot this is great from Rosie Kay about the cancellations and the culture of fear in the Arts in the UK. Part of the Evening Standard's free speech series: https://www.standard.co.uk/comment/freedom-of-speech-cancel-culture-the-arts-rosie-kay-choreographer-b1136290.html

Another great catch, Michelle. Hope Freedom in the Arts can instigate some changes.

I hope so as well. Rosie and Denise Fahmy are working hard.

There is also a new Gender Critical network aimed at police officers which might prove useful.

And because the search for the Clapman attacker is ongoing -- they have just released info that he called himself a 'good Muslim' and thus his 'conversion to Christianity' might not be all that it seemed. The C of E has form for this btw. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/clapham-attack-abdul-ezedi-muslim-search-latest-london-news-j7s67jb95 or https://archive.is/https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/clapham-attack-abdul-ezedi-muslim-search-latest-london-news-j7s67jb95

Hello Northumberland!

Tied up a little longer than usual this Friday morning. Appreciate the links to all the articles, Michelle. Another fine roundup.

The article on the farmer's protest was interesting. The elections will be interesting this summer.

It's a crying shame about Mike Freer and that MPs need bodyguards to protect them from pro-Palestinian protesters. And the asylum-seeker's attack on the woman and her two children was awful. This is what the world is coming to?

I skimmed the .pdf report on Israel's situation. Thank You. It was interesting, as You said.

And that must-a been some storm! Glad to see Paddy survived it.

Want to end by saying TY again, for Your fine efforts. Hope the writing is going well.

Always enjoy hearing from you JT.

The elections across Europe are going to be interesting. Unrest all around. Immigration is a huge topic as is the restrictions etc to combat climate change. Farmers are unhappy. Farmers are a huge political force in the EU.

The storm was fierce. I heard what I thought was a trash can going over but could have been the tree. It is something else. That photo showed maybe half of it. I am so glad it didn't go the other way and on to the neighbour's garage as that would have been horrible.

The writing is going. The first three chapters are nearly done and they will go off to my editor early next week.

That failed asylum seeker who "brought chemicals from Newcastle" isn't a Christian. That is obvious. That he may still be Muslim is possible; culturally he is certainly Afghani. Afghans - and others in the male Muslim world - have a long and horrible history of savaging women who fail to heed their commands. I say send him back to Afghanistan. He'll fit right in.

I've written it before and no doubt will need to do so in the future: Anyone who is steeped in Western traditions and wishes to maintain them is insane and in denial if a bit of Islamaphobia isn't part of their thinking. Also, a target.

You will appreciate this op ed then: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/02/02/islamism-is-the-biggest-threat-we-face-yet-our-leaders-do-n/ or https://archive.is/https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/02/02/islamism-is-the-biggest-threat-we-face-yet-our-leaders-do-n/ about how Islamism (militant and murderous adherents to Islam who wish to force the entire world to follow their version of Sharia law) are a significant danger to the West. Preaching to the choir here I suspect.

Well, finally accessed that Telegraph article. Thank you.

It is well stated, though when Tom Harris writes "Islamism is not Islam but a vile iteration of it" I roll my eyes. I've heard/read that claim so many times and each time I say (mainly to myself), "prove it!" Jihad is, in my rather shallow but long experienced exposure to Islam, the root of the problem. If the holy texts of that religion (ideology of conquest is more like it*) call for jihad, including by violence, and claim to bless those followers who kill infidels, particularly Jews, I don't see where Islamism is anything other than a genuine aspect of Islam.

And, following a link in the article to another Harris article of a few days earlier, I'd say Labour has a serious problem. Though it doesn't appear Starmer has the backbone to deal with it. Surely, as poorly as the Tories have performed of late, Starmer has sufficient electoral cover to take on the antisemitic zealots in his party. Perhaps it is the Sv sottish elements that skew so crazy?

One thing I will say about the US is this: Support for Israel has grown here. Certainly the stupid people - our elected members of the Squad and the foolish college students and other GenZ whackos having made a nuisance of themselves with road blocking and attempts to disrupt and shout down has not helped any "Palestinian" cause. Maybe that holds true in Britain?

Though not Jewish, I get Zionism (though not the collectivist/socialist aspects, though they are understandable). If October 7 means anything al all, it fully explains Zionism and israel as a Jewish state.

The problem with Labour is that its most vocal activists skew far left. Starmer for example appeared at the Diva magazine thing last week promising to reform the GRA and introduce a blanket on conversion therapy. This has alarmed many GC women, particularly as there is a rumour about one of his children.

And for Labour, the Islamists and those adjacent do deliver votes. I suspect things will get worse not better. Even though I do know the Labour leadership does support Israel. Rachel Reeves who is the shadow chancellor is Jewish and more important a senior member of the Friends of Israel group in parliament. Labour for many years was the party most Jewish people voted for, but the antisemitism on the far Left burst out into the open during the Corbyn era.

Islam like any other Abrahamic religion has many strands. Christianity (for the most part) has dealt with its militant tendency (the last great flourish was the missionary movement). You no longer have say what happened with the year 1000 in the Nordic countries where it was v much convert or die. I

Tom Holland's In the Shadow of the Sword (2012) was a book which first alerted me to the real danger. The religion of the Muslim Brotherhood ( v evangelical in its way) is different to the religion practiced by Attaturk or indeed the Ottoman Empire where the religion was imposed top down. There are such strands as Quaranism which rejects everything except for the Koran. The hadiths or prescriptions for living by Islamic scholars are part of the problem imho.

In Britain, I am not sure if support has grown. People have seen the protestors swerve from climate change to the pro-Hamas cause. I think people are waking up the problems of the Islamists -- the chemical attack in London has opened eyes. What is it -- the C of E has had to admit that no Muslim who has British citizenship/the right to remain has converted while a significant number of failed asylum seekers have.

Ireland because of Sinn Fein etc is far more pro-Palestinian. Scotland has its own craziness but given that Yousaf who is pro Hamas (his wife's family hold down good jobs in Gaza which does not happen unless...) there is a certain amount disconnect on the subject.

There is a general awareness in the UK that we have suddenly moved from a post-war to a pre-war and that Russia will attack a NATO country, plus you have this axis developing which involves Russia, China and Iran. If you can watch Putin v the West (the second series has just come out) -- it is v good. Trump actually deserves a lot of credit for his arming of Ukraine. A damning report about the state of British Armed Forces has just been published -- Ready for War?: https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm5804/cmselect/cmdfence/26/report.html

And like I am not Jewish but I certainly understand the need for the 'Zionist Project' as Hamas now like to call it. I thought Martin Gilbert's History of Israel was v instructive btw.

I’m a bit disappointed that Clarkson’s op-ed on Markle is no liner available; I’d probably hang it up on my fridge.

Very good.

He apparently was channelling his inner Game of Thrones with it. I suspect there might be something in series 3 about the kerfuffle. If you have not seen the show, it is v watchable. Series 2 has his 2 lab puppies.

I thought you might enjoy the Queen Mary's dollhouse -- they have a brief tour of it on the website. It is something I have often thought would be pleasant to see.

He described a dream where Markle was publicly shamed in the manner of Cercei in Game of Thrones -- ie with people throwing lumps of excrement at her. He agreed that it was in poor taste.
