I love the Springer meme! Our springer was so bad when he was that age. He stole everything, like the remote control, then would run around and change the channel while we all tried to get him. He had such personality.
And I was glad to get it done. There was one point earlier in the week when I thought I don't know how I'm going to end it. Then the ending quite work and I had to find another way but I got there and my editor will make sure it gets there even more.
And here is another article for you -- all about the behind the scenes manoeuvring at Bloomsbury last year when they dropped the Nigel Biggar book which became a best seller and of course Hannah Barnes Time to Think which also became a best seller. It is a share token and so you should be able to click through.
And yet they are doing the very same thing as those who were on the wrong side of history 90 years ago—starting with book banning and censorship. More sophisticated kitchen gadgets. Same recipe.
The publisher decides. It is whatever marketing thinks will sell the book. I have a v poor track record of getting to keep my working titles. I already know this title will be changing as my editor refers to it by the two main characters.
They also write the blurb which goes on the back. It is a skill in itself.
Always. I do trust my editor's judgement though. I am very very lucky to have her. I was worried when my last editor, the editor who bought me, finally retired
My aunt who decided that her boys weren't going to have toy guns was shocked to discover that they made them out of Lego.
The thing which surprised me was that the archaeologists somehow thought that children (particularly boys) didn't go to the games or weren't aware of them. And the mores were different -- life was much cheaper. One of the reasons why I like Tom Holland's Dominion was that he demonstrated this valuing of life which is central to Western culture was by no means inevitable but rather a product of Christian impulses. It is one of the troubles with Presentism -- that belief that everything exists in the eternal present and that people in the past had to have had the specific moral beliefs.
Congratulations on finishing your manuscript!

Yes lots of personality.
The meme made laugh so hard as it is so true.

He does have a v soft mouth. I'd just prefer him to get the game when directed not doing it freelance. LOL.
Spaniels -- you know they die half-trained...
Hello Northumberland! Good to see You calling again!
A fine collection of articles. I'm so sorry to see the Book Festivals go down the tubes. Like You say, they're up against dedicated anarchists.
I'm so glad to see the PB ban go in place. You're so lucky that way.
That was really interesting what You said about the gladiators. And I didn't know You led the way in publishing a Roman historical romance in 2005.
Ah Paddy!
And CONGRATULATIONS! That's great You hit send on the manuscript. I look forward to hearing more by the 14th.
TY, as always, Michelle.

Shambolic. And they sacked the editor who championed Hannah Barnes book, to boot.
Nobody has the will to stand up to the younger hooligans who run publishing these days.
Many are frightened of being on the Wrong Side of History.
And yet they are doing the very same thing as those who were on the wrong side of history 90 years ago—starting with book banning and censorship. More sophisticated kitchen gadgets. Same recipe.
Precisely. V well put.
Yes it is ah Paddy! indeed.
Glad you enjoyed the articles as I always enjoy hearing from you.
This ms was interesting and I am not entirely happy with it. It had a huge plot hole which I think I've sorted.
TY for Your reply. I can't wait to read it. Do You decide the title for the book, or does the publisher?
The publisher decides. It is whatever marketing thinks will sell the book. I have a v poor track record of getting to keep my working titles. I already know this title will be changing as my editor refers to it by the two main characters.

Mazel tov on hitting send! That must be a feeling of mixed relief and trepidation, I imagine.
