I imagine the 250th anniversary celebration will be yet another 80-20 issue where Democrats and the MSM will be-clown themselves by pointing out anything they can that is bad about the US or the celebrations.

I suspect some of the Democrats will, but that MSM will suddenly come over all patriotic. They will complain about the bling and that there will be a national parade (Trump does love a parade) but there will be this huge upswelling. It is also this huge marketing opportunity for companies and God knows they love the marketing op.

They tried this muting 50 years ago and it didn't work.

My sister has gifted me a WaPo subscription. This is what they are saying about Trump's vision. But believe me -- they will be covering the Great American State Fair. https://archive.ph/rKsAZ

Couldn’t do it. Trump is renaming monuments? They must mean returning the monuments to their proper names. Either bezos needs to school those mopes or sell it or maybe just let it descend to nothingness.

Donald Graham, former owner, had an OpEd in the WSJ about how dreamers should be able to attend college on in state rates. He got excoriated.

Wow. They can’t stand it!

I live near DC and got WaPo for 30 years. It always leaned left editorially but had people like George Will and Charles Krauthammer as columnists. Their newsroom always played it straight. But we started noticing editorial content creeping into their news reports and finally had to sadly cancel our subscription.

George Will became a more erudite Bill Kristol or Pastor French. A purse lipped, condescending “principled” conservative never Trumper. Bah.

This is also what I expect. There's a chance that the Democrats will attempt to "prove" that they are patriotic Americans, but considering that they have unashamedly voted for a Islamic Communist in NYC, it seems just as likely that they will double down on the America-is-evil message that the Leftists (who are now in control) are devotees of.

So the left hates animals now too? A vet refuses care for a dog because the owner makes them clutch their pearls?

The world is way too prosperous if this type of BS occurs. People must have too much time in their hands.

Happy Independence Day! I find myself thinking of my 6th great grandfather who served in the 6th VA Regiment till he was wounded at Brandywine. He never saw his land grant in KY for his service. I wonder what he thought and what he hoped for his children and their children. I’m eternally grateful to him and the thousands like him who gave us this gift.

Yes it is interesting to speculate. It is also interesting about how many generations. I think it is 7th/8th for me -- I do have some ancestors who served. (And there was Zachary Tyler's grandson who died in May -- so what 3 generations?)

Reasons exist why I am an American without a hyphen. And anyone who did spectrum analysis of my teeth will see the enamel was laid down in the SF Bay Area so that is really where I am from.

All I know is whether early or late in arriving, all my ancestors were grateful for the American promise and way of doing business. I suspect several whirled in their graves when I moved to the UK and became a British citizen as well as remaining an American, but times alter.

One Thing that our so-diferent political systems have in common: Formation of a third party (here, additional party there) is a guaranteed torpedo amidships to whatever cause the third/additional party would espouse.

A meaningful Independence Day to ya.

It is currently hilarious as Corbyn isn't sure he's joining -- discussions are on going. A number of others have said -- nope, we're staying. It is v People's Front for Judea.

The other hilarious thing is that the French police have started puncturing the small boat inflatables in shallow water, in a change of tactics. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/07/04/french-police-puncture-migrant-boats-yvette-cooper/ or https://archive.ph/smWHh

Hello Northumberland! Good to see You this fine Fourth of July. Another great roundup.

I hope the BBC faces accountability.

I hope booksellers come to grips with their discrimination against GC views. The editorial isn't it. I'm so glad to hear that Alison Baily won her case.

Slavery is repugnant, especially in this day and age.

I hope You enjoy Your barbeque. I thank You and Paddy for the good wishes, and return them.

It is a great clip.

Lisa Nandy, the culture secretary, remains unhappy at the BBC allowing Foster-Robinson to be shown or indeed why no one has been sacked for screening the Gaza film which was basically Hamas propaganda back in February. https://www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/bbc-glastonbury-lisa-nandy-jbhv5t6fg or https://archive.ph/pwQgK

Happy 4th, Michelle! I love that you decorate all the way across the pond. Paddy needs an American flag bandana, lol!

Poor Alison Bailey. She has really been put through the ringer. I cannot believe the evil of not treating a pet because you don't approve of the owner's views. I am glad she won this suit. I believe she lost her employment suit a couple of years ago.

Hilarious that Corbyn is iffy on joining the the third party! 🤣

Funnily enough my youngest informed of this oversight and told me that I have until next year to get it rectified. Paddy must have an American bandana before the 250th.

I am amazed at Bailey's fortitude. Sadly, the vet story does not surprise me as there has been a lot of -- we won't serve if your values are not ours. This has been true for GC women but equally for others. This is not what the Government intended with the Equality Act. It will be interesting to see the damages -- Bailey asked for £25k.

If you will recall the Manchester airport incident from last year where the police were said to have behaved badly, the brothers are currently on trial. They allegedly headbutted some man because their mother didn't like how he had behaved on a flight back from Dubai. The man declined to give a statement and was only in the UK on holiday. They then used extreme violence against the police before their supporters put out a video just showing the police reaction... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/07/04/brothers-headbutt-stranger-manchester-airport-attack/ or https://archive.ph/pNjC2

And the Government didn't proscribe Palestinian Action back in March when they first crossed the terrorist threshold because they didn't want riots/bad behaviour in the run up to the local elections. They only acted when the idiots started targeting military bases. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/07/04/palestine-action-ban-considered-months-before-raf-break-in/ or https://archive.ph/sKT1i

That was a good article. Thanks for sharing. The links between Islamists and the Soviets are really fascinating. Pierre Rehov does a great job of showing this in his documentary, "Pogroms". You can watch it on his website. It is a must see for everyone. The October 7th footage is not gratuitous.

Is it too much to suggest Paddy get a tricorn hat? 🤣 He would be a handsome little soldier/ colonial.

Michelle Styles's avatar

I will see if any tricorn hats remain -- we had some for a long time, courtesy of a trip to Williamsburg. I know my youngest had his at uni.

I haven't watched Pogroms. I think the 7 Oct footage tends to be necessary but those who need to see it most won't watch it -- think Emily Eavis and her ilk who keep platforming known antisemites at music festivals, even though Hamas banned music and dancing in Gaza (including traditional Arabic folk dance) and deliberately struck a music festival which was dedicated to peace. Go figure.
