And this from Jess Phillips and Shabana Mahmood about the intimidation they experienced from the single issue crowd. Hopefully Mahmood will seriously consider Lord Walney's proposals. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4ng3j1pnpqo

It's a crying shame. Nice catch, Michelle.

Yes it is. Jess Philips knew how to handle hecklers though.

Mahmood should be Justice Minister and would have some real power to do something.

Thank you Michelle for the recap. Sorry to hear you've ended up with an MP that might not care much about their constituency. Sadly it's all too common. We will see what happens in France and also in the ever evolving soap opera that is US politics. No one running for office should be subjected to physical threats and intimidation, and it's a worrying trend the authorities should put an end to wherever it's happening without silly fears of being called some "ism" or "phobia".

The good part about my new MP is that he cares about the rivers, in particularly the Tyne. He did grow up here. I suspect my children know people who knew him from back then. He did seem genuinely pleased to get it. His parents may still live in the area. It means the Conservatives who did used to parachute in MPs to the area won't be able to do that anymore.

It is the growth in political violence from whichever side which needs to be addressed, swiftly. Walney did offer some suggestions and he is from the Left so maybe Labour will start to listen.

Michelle, I think you write novels in the "Romance" genre. If not, ignore this. Perhaps you caught a piece in today's NYT on that topic and bookstores devoted to the genre. If not, here isn a link to the article: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/07/books/romance-bookstores.html?campaign_id=9&emc=edit_nn_20240707&instance_id=128127&nl=the-morning&regi_id=67441666&segment_id=171500&te=1&user_id=8e8d973bc1c664fbfbc3291ce986b4a9

I hadn't seen that but thank you for it. Yes I know all about Ripped Bodice and the trend they started. Women like to read. And I most definitely write Romance. HQN is the largest publisher of Romance -- my books are better travelled than I am.

Plus, for some reason your SS doesn't show up on my SS "profile". Not sure what is going on there.

Starmer has just finished his speech. It is supposed to be a government of service and working to rebuild trust. It will be interesting to see what that means in practice.

Hope you had a good FOurth.

I had a good Fourth. I actually forgot it was a holiday until someone wished me a "Happy" on my walk. The fifth is another story. I slept long, but woke up tired. Ah well...

Have a good 'n, Michelle. TY for writing.

You always make me smile.
