This is Northumberland Calling 5.6.26
The ‘I don’t think you are, mate’ and two tier policing edition
Hello America (especially Central Ohio), this is Northumberland calling.
The fallout from the Henry Nowak case gained momentum this week because after the sentencing (21 years minimum – starting point 15 years ) Henry Nowak’s family released the footage of the police officers attending the scene. The disparity in attitude was clear to anyone with half a brain cell. Despite being told repeatedly that Henry had been stabbed, the police officers chose to believe the lying Digwa family and opted not to check for stab wounds. Like the Stephan Lawrence case which eventually brought about a sea change in policing through the Macpherson report, Nowak was wearing dark clothes, and it was dark out. The police should have treated it like a stabbing until proven otherwise. 99 times out of 100 it might be the victim exaggerating, but on the 100th time the victim dies in horrible circumstances. The video is a hard watch. The police officer who said ‘I don’t think you have been, mate.’ In response to Nowak’s plea for help will have to live with his actions for the rest of his life. However, police training must alter to ensure this sort of incident doesn’t happen again. This is the video ( warning it will make you angry at the police’s callous attitude towards a dying man)
Nigel Farage watched that video on Monday night. On Tuesday morning he spoke of ‘pure cold rage’. What he failed to say was that rage is best put to productive use or otherwise it becomes like jet fuel burning on the side of a runaway – looks spectacular but accomplishes little. Kemi Badenoch understands this and which is why she called for hard work and action to root the true cause of the trouble – training which has resulted in an unbalanced approach from the police and other bodies. Stamer’s big response was to blame Farage and Musk for whipping up the furore. The Speaker of the House on Monday demanded the Government make a statement on the case. They were going to send the policing minister but in the event sent Mahmood who asked that people wait for the IOPC enquiry to finish in August. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/06/04/badenoch-nowaks-parents-want-common-sense-policing/ or https://archive.ph/F8GJk
It is being reported that in addition to the IOPC enquiry (which is not expected to find any wrong doing on the part of the police officers – they are still listed as witnesses), there will a jury inquest (convening 20Sept 2027) which will investigate if the police actions contributed to Nowak’s death. For example, did the handcuffing dislodge clotting? There is also to be independent investigation in Hampshire police.
Nick Timothy, shadow justice minister explains why it is wrong for the Left to try to shut conversation down (or redirect it towards Farage!) in this case. It does need to be discussed and lessons actually learnt.
The Nowak murder is the latest in a series where anti-racism training appears to have caused/contributed to murders or other severe incidents. Southport, Sara Sharif and the Manchester Arena bombing are clear examples. Another is the Nottingham killings where the psychopathic killer was not put in a secure psych ward because the psychiatrist was aware of the overrepresentation of black males in such institutions. In doing so, the psychiatrist failed not only the patient but also the three victims. The enquiry about the murders is ongoing but is not getting the attention it deserves. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/06/04/emma-webber-son-nottingham-killer-racist-attack/ or https://archive.ph/1qnfP
The Association of Muslim Police has issued a statement saying that ‘Zionism’ should fall under the category of anti-Muslim hate. They also endorse special treatment for Muslim suspects, such as allowing fasting and prayer rituals and timing searches so these things are not interrupted. They also object to the term ‘Islamist terrorist’. Can a member of said association be said to be policing without fear or favour if they endorse these measures? The National College of Policing along with 16 UK police forces regularly consult the NAMP. There must be a discussion about if it is good for community cohesion to have such sectarian groups involved with policing where officers take an oath about policing without fear or favour. https://spectator.com/article/the-disturbing-truth-about-the-national-association-of-muslim-police/ or https://archive.ph/Bi65i
This Matt Cartoon about Two-Teir Miss Marple (Never mind the poisoning, officer, I overheard a racist remark at the post office) is spot on:
The EHRC guidance is causing howls of rage. Over 70 MPs have signed an early day motion trying to stop it (thankfully my MP was not one of them – although his letter to me was insulting in prioritizing trans privileges which never existed over women’s rights) Various unions have come out against the guidance, even though it doesn’t cover workplaces (the 1992 regs do) . The House of Commons are offering to support staff who are upset about the guidance. This is a gift article on the House of Commons https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/9e29da3269b2f11f
Janet Murray, the new chair of SEEN in Journalism has done a deep dive into the trans-activist capture of the unions. She points out that the majority of ordinary members are not activist and are disinclined to vote on policy matters. The result has been an undermining women’s workplace rights, something which unions (many like UNISON overwhelmingly female) are supposed to uphold. https://www.spiked-online.com/2026/06/04/why-are-trade-unions-undermining-womens-workplace-rights/ or https://archive.ph/WmSHL
One of Scotland’s schools thought to defy to law and not provide same-sex toileting facilities. They lost their case. The court ruled they had acted unlawfully. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/regulations-scotland-scottish-government-b1284866.html
SEEN in Sport has published detailing the sporting associations which have continued to defy the law. ‘The State of Play’ Despite claiming to have a specific category reserved for females, these associations permit males to compete. As the IOC pointed out, there are solid reasons for age, weight and sex categories. These do need to enforced to ensure fair competition. https://www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/sports-bodies-trans-compete-female-events-2js8dv22d
Here:
The rain has come which means the garden is not so parched. The weeds grow at a rate of knots. The vegetable patch is also putting on growth. The first roses are out. It is a good rose year. The David Austen rose ‘Strawberry Hill’ we planted in honour of Tess, a collie who died in 2022 has had the most magnificent blooms this year, much larger than last year.
Paddy is woofing for his walk. He has been busy in the garden checking on all the smells. He was caught in a rainstorm and went down to the very wooded part of the garden to avoid getting soaked. I had to go and find him and bring him in as the rain was becoming torrential.
My writing goes slowly in part because Paddy and the cats have developed a tag team approach to getting me up. 4:15 am and I don’t function well. I am trying a new approach – getting up, letting Paddy out to do his business, getting him back in and stumbling upstairs for a few more hours of much needed sleep. Creativity appears to be returning. It is also useful to channel my rage into something productive like writing.
I have no plans to put a paywall on. If you want to buy one of my books to reward me, fabulous. I believe they are good escapist reads, historical romance set in a wide variety of eras such as Rome, Viking and Regency. ‘Simply enchanting’ according to Romance Readers’ Reviews about A Christmas Wedding Wager. ‘Everybody loves Styles’ Vikings’ said the Romantic Times.
Please subscribe if you like what I write. I look forward to seeing you in the comments.

This is very good from Lord Tony Sewell. In this op ed, he explains why policing in Britain needs to alter and why racial equity is a dangerous madness and exists in opposition to actual justice. I have a lot of time for Sewell. He has done a lot to promote excellence in teaching black Britons (particularly boys) that they should not give into the soft bigotry of low expectations. He doesn't fit the narrative and thus, a certain section ignores him which is a mistake imho. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/06/05/racial-equity-is-dangerous-madness-opposite-of-justice/ or https://archive.ph/lUpMS
In the US ( as you know) many of our schools have, for decades, taught that only whites can be racist. Is the same true now in the UK and was that the case before the summer of love in 2020?
