Anyone who believes that trans women (or other men) should be allowed to compete against biological women in most sports or that they belong in women's restrooms, locker rooms and prisons is either cognitively impaired or intellectually dishonest.

I agree with you on that.

However there is a well funded group of people who appear to believe just that...the Spiral of Silence has been nearly total.

"Edgy" and/or "influencer" status seem to be excessively in vogue. (Though they may be seen as stepping stones to money...)

Once people wanted to be 'models' now they want to be 'influencers' and basically be paid money for being them as advertisers seek to cope with people not watching commercial tv etc. Nice work if you can get it...

I think it’s rather a good idea not to film yourself doing any kind of crime, not just arson. But then they do say most criminals are stupid.

And you have oil? I thought England was only supposed to have green energy including that produced by fairy and unicorn wings

Ha ha about the green energy. There are reasons why they can't, particularly in the rural areas. We are on the outskirts of a village but some places are truly the middle of nowhere.

Great roundup, as always Michelle. The photos form the EO signing were wonderful! Hopefully, we will be able to get a reality based definition of sex into law. I see the EOs as as a tourniquet, but we need lasting protections and only the legislature can do that.

The fly tipping story is crazy. How do you even get 30k TONS of garbage to dump?

Good luck on Sunday to all of us betting on the Super Bowl! I don't care who wins the game, I just hope I win with my Super Bowl square. 🤞🤞🤞

I am a neutral this year -- 49er Faithful from about 1974. Just after they moved to Candlestick as then I could attend. My father said that Keyser Stadium was far too rough for a little girl (even if my brother was allowed to)...

Presumably they were running a waste disposal business...

It must be lasting protection and if the GOP can't get through on this cycle, it is a vote winning campaign tool

Hello Northumberland! Good to see You. Another fine roundup of articles for our viewing pleasure.

I, too, was glad to see President Trump's EO on women's sports being for women only. Very glad. I hope Sandie Peggie wins her lawsuit.

Lord Hermer is a real piece of work. How did someone who is so anti-British get such a position? Oh. "Starmer's longtime friend". And then there's Philippe Sands. Another long-time friend. "With friends like this..."

That was a great win for the FSU in favor of Jamie Michael. The FSU is great. It was an absurd case based on absurd laws.

I was glad to hear about the arrests for fly-tipping. Horrible.

Sorry to hear about Your boiler. We had temps of 66° F, which is about 19° C, on Groundhog day. Since then it's returned to more seasonable temps. Too bad. I thought Spring was just around the corner.

I'm so glad to hear the writing on The Viking's Royal Marriage Bargain is going so well. And Paddy looks marvelous, as always.

And, also as always: TY Michelle.

I had the great fortune to be born a Lions fan. I think these last two years have been their best since before my mother was born.

The trans issue is such a liability and the Democrats are just doubling down.

Are the penalties for dumping fairly strict in the UK?

Expand full comment
Michelle Styles's avatar

Oh I really hope the Lions make it...one year. It takes a special sort of dedication. Next year...

Yes industrial scale fly tipping is very serious.

It makes me angry that the Democrats who loudly trumpet their feminism don't see this is Men's Demands v Women's Rights. There again, I was told many years ago that Democrats only paid lip service to advancing women (including only advancing women who are spouses or somehow linked to prominent males) and the GOP actually advanced women on merit. How true that is depends on your pov but it is something to think about.

The Lions going to the Super Bowl would be like a dream!

I am glad fly tipping is taken seriously.

It is interesting that there seem to be more women Republicans elected than Democrats and President Trump has more women in leadership positions than I remember any other President having. I say seems because I haven't counted.

Do you see this dynamic in Labour and Conservative politics? Both female PMs were Conservative, Kemi Badenoch as well.

The dynamic has also been noted in the UK -- Labour have quotas, the Conservatives don't. There has never been a female leader of the Labour party.

So Britain's Attorney General thinks the British Empire was evil? Maybe he should voluntarily surrender his position AND his title and move to a hovel somewhere to give up his 'Privilege' (based, surely, on Britain success as an empire) and show how sorry he is for being British.

And this about Starmer “Greater love hath no man than this: that he lay down his friends for his life.” (name the inversion) It sums him up very well though. If it becomes politically expedient, he will get rid of his friends. https://www.thetimes.com/comment/columnists/article/how-do-you-solve-a-problem-like-lord-hermer-kkbp0v6hx or https://archive.ph/p5frZ

Had an interesting converse with an acquaintance who is now working as a tribal lawyer locally dealing with empowering the tribe to be able to prosecute abusers in tribal court. Huge push for sovereignty -the other side of that tho is then the tribes will have to pay to house the criminal offenders and the privatized corporate jails over here are very expensive big money makers. My own Cherokee Nation is now paying 5.8 Million dollars a year to farm out our own offenders to a prison in another state!

At any rate my lawyer acquaintance was bemoaning the lack of federal funding to 'rehabilitate' the abusers of native women ( mostly native men although some non-native men). I just lost patience and said well, the way the ladies in my own tribe back in the day used to deal with that shit was to keep a shotgun behind the door! As one used to tell me, the sound of a shotgun cocking is a great deterrent to bad behavior. And I told the lawyer aquaintance that maybe federal funding could solve the abuse problems if they used it instead to train every woman and girl in some serious and ongoing unarmed (and armed) self defense, instead of trying to rehabilitate the abusers, which quite obviously has not been working. That did not go over well at all. Ha ha. Big surprise.

It is one solution -- ensuring that women know how to aim for certain parts with a shotgun. Good for you for suggesting it.

'Rehabilitating' abusers is seldom effective. Without changing some very core beliefs--often instilled from a very young age--about what a person is 'entitled to' (obedience, 'respect,' taking out your frustrations physically, etc.) the mindset that drives the behavior isn't going to change. An abuser can mouth the words 'Abuse is wrong' a thousand times in therapy, but if the core beliefs aren't changed, the abuse will happen again.

Expand full comment
Rainbow Medicine-Walker's avatar

I agree and while I do believe abusers can benefit from therapy, first there needs to be a very direct and physically enforced incentive not to abuse anymore. Have had loooong conversations about this with domestic abuse counselors etc and their biggest frustration is that the women themselves will far too often not stand up and fight back in direct and effective ways. From an old time traditional Cherokee perspective this epidemic of abuse of women and children should be dealt with by the women themselves. Aka the pink gulabi gang of India sort of methods if necessary.

Women need to hear ALL THE TIME from other women around them that abuse is not acceptable. It is far too easy for an abuser to gaslight a woman who is in love with him into thinking that his treatment of her is 'deserved.' And even an ordinarily strong woman (or man, as happened with my father-in-law) can fall prey to an abuser chipping away at their self worth. I once had to talk a young Facebook friend (a fellow Harry Potter fan, and not a 'weak' person at all) through her separation from a narcissistic abuser--almost daily reminders that her feelings were legitimate and his behaviors were an unacceptably abusive pattern. I'm always pleased when I see her posts, because she's back to being a strong woman again, in a healthy relationship, and with a snarky young son who is fulfilling the 'hope you have a child just like you' curse.

This is true and hooray that that young woman is healing. Hopefully her son will turn out to be a fine upstanding young man. Perhaps he will become a lawyer, dedicated to ensuring women like her are protected.

Absoutely agree about the support from other women being so needed and so glad you could be there to support your friend! Yet another reason to be disturbed by the trans woman/biological male invasion of women's only cirlces and groups. Women know on a cellular level when there is a biological male present, no matter how many hormones he takes or girly things he does and those women will simply not feel safe and open up and get real while he is there even tho they may pretend to themselves they are. We have a couple of trans guys here who have invaded the local women's groups. One of them is a predator, even if he never actually attacks anyone, he has made several women uncomfortable. Myself and other women have tried to talk to the various group leader women about this and they are simply deaf dumb and blind and consider it the problem of those women who are 'uncomfortable'. Talk about women condoning abuse against women! The ones I worry most about are the young girls who now think it is normal to have biological men in a women's only circle!
